The city of Houghton seeks residents interested in helping the city determine updates to the Houghton Charter. Houghton will begin determining the need for any updates to the city’s governing charter. Municipalities in the state of Michigan are required to review governing documents every few years. Houghton’s charter and study commission will be tasked with reviewing the city charter and making any recommendations to the Houghton council. Individuals interested in helping their local government should fill out an application, and return it to City Clerk Ann Vollrath. Houghton will need any applications to join the charter study commission by February 9th. The city council will then appoint a single member to the commission at its February 14th city council meeting.
