Houghton Planning Commission Meeting Preview: Master Plan Review, Food Truck Ordinance Proposal

The City of Houghton Planning Commission is set to review multiple issues submitted to the board at their meeting tonight.

There was a request to rezone an area on Canal road about half a mile west of Chutes and Ladders park. The area is currently zoned as a single-family residence, and it was requested to be zoned as a multiple-family residence.

City Manager, Eric Waara deemed it unable to be rezoned, and now it is up to the commission.

There will also be the review of sections of the city’s Master Plan. There will be discussions about the economic development, zoning plan and future land use, life in a winter city that are described in the Plan.

There is also a draft ordinance proposal regarding food truck vendor spaces and permits. The ordinance will eventually be submitted to the City Council after input from the Planning Commission.

The meeting will be in the City of Houghton Council Chambers this evening starting at 5:30.
