Houghton Keweenaw 4-H celebrates the Trap Rock Club’s history and awards youth for accomplishments

The Houghton Keweenaw 4H program awards youth for outstanding accomplishments. Recently the Houghton Keweenaw 4H program hosted its annual award Youth Award Ceremony celebrating several achievements showcasing 4h knowledge, skills, and experience. The 4H program awarded the 4H Alumni of the Year award to Joan Dostaler from the Trap Rock 4H Club. Up and Coming 4Her of the Year was awarded to Aleah Simpson with the Country Living 4H Club. Another major award for the 4H Family of the Year was awarded to the Olsen Family from the Country Roots and Dirty Boots 4H Club.

Program coordinator Anna Kretschman says the celebration also highlighted the Trap Rock Club’s extensive history. For 100 years the Trap Rock 4 H Club has shared knowledge and skills for agriculture and outdoor sciences with local youth, participating in regular meetings, award ceremonies, community events, and volunteer projects. It is one of the oldest active 4 H clubs in the nation. Those interested in learning more about the Houghton Keweenaw 4 H Program or the 2024 4H Youth Awards can find more information here.
