Houghton High School Athletics Warns of Donation Scam

Houghton High School wishes to address a scam rumor in the community. The school district will not solicit donations over the phone to help send the boy’s hockey team downstate for the upcoming playoff tournament.

“We are not soliciting local businesses. We are not calling anybody on that. Everything for that would be done through the GoFundMe page. Another thing I’ve been made aware of is. There’s a company Royal Publishing that has been calling businesses to solicit advertising for the souvenir program that will be used down in Plymouth. So those are the only two legitimate opportunities that we have. The royal Publishing is through the MHSAA and the gofundme directly through Houghton.” – Rob Fay, Athletic Director, Houghton – Portage Township School District

Royal Publishing may connect with area businesses to inquire about sponsorships for the souvenir program at the tournament downstate in Plymouth. An official link for the Houghton High School Boy’s Hockey team GoFundMe page can be found here. That link is the only official form of donation that will help the team with travel expenses. Please contact the Houghton Portage Township school district with additional questions or concerns.
