The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club is bringing up a prominent Michigan paleontologist for its annual Gem and Mineral Show next week. Taking place at the Houghton Elementary School, the event is set for August 13th-15th.
The featured presenter is Joe Kchodl, better known as Paleo Joe. He is a fixture downstate, based out of Midland and a 13-time lecturer at the Greater Detroit Rock and Mineral Exposition. Paleo Joe’s specialty is in trilobites, better known as deep sea crustacean fossils. His collection has been on display at museums across the Midwest.
Paleo Joe is no stranger to the Upper Peninsula. His talk will look at fossils across the state, as well as a discussion titled, “Fishing With a Hammer and Chisel,” about his time in the Badlands of Wyoming. Joe presents at 4:00 next Friday afternoon and 3:00 next Saturday.
The Gem and Mineral Show is free and open to the public.
