Some good news on the COVID-19 front, as cases in Houghton County were significantly lower in the most recent reporting period. For the seven days ending on August 25, only 37 cases were recorded. That compares to 50 from the week prior. The positivity rate also fell, down to 6.67%.
Baraga and Keweenaw saw upticks, though, which caused the tri-county numbers to rise to 59 total cases. One death was registered in Houghton County for the period.
Across the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department region, only Gogebic County is below the high transmission classification, and it is at substantial. It should be noted that a year ago, COVID infection rates were significantly higher than they are today. Houghton County was averaging around 15 cases per day by early September 2020.
