The Houghton County Road Commission receives a worker’s safety award from the County Road Association Self-Insurance fund. Houghton County’s Road Commission has received the coveted goose egg award from the County Road Association Self-Insurance fund. The award is given to a county road commission in Michigan that goes 12 months without a worker’s compensation claim. The county road commission was also recognized for having one of the lowest worker injury rates in the state of Michigan.
“It says here zero worker’s compensation loss. That also means that more of the taxpayer’s dollars are going directly to maintaining our roads. The Road Commission should be applauded for their extraordinary achievement. And on the same note. The Houghton County Road Commission received a state award on the same date. For recognition of having one of the lowest employee injury rates among road commissions in the state.” – Roy Britz, Vice Chairman, Houghton County Commission
Houghton County Road Commission employees face challenging road conditions for much of the year. And also complete various road maintenance projects during the construction season. Safety is a high priority for the road commission due to the nature of the work employees do and the locations where they work. Around 75 percent of roads in Michigan are maintained by county road commissions.
