The Houghton County Commission meeting will hold two separate public hearings.
One hearing will be on the topic of the proposed increase of property taxes in Houghton, following the proposed additional millage. If approved, property taxes will increase operating revenues of 5.54%, based on the value of the property. If it is not approved, the property taxes will increase by 1.68% over the previous year’s operating revenue.
The second public hearing will be about the approval of a loan for a re-organized local skateboard deck manufacturer.
In terms of new business, there will be the authorization of county taxes, the authorization of 2023 millage rates, and the decommission of the Laurium old 911 tower.
The Houghton County Commission Meeting will begin at 4PM, at which the public hearing will be held. Meetings are held on the 5th floor of the Houghton County Courthouse.
