Houghton County COVID cases drop

COVID activity fell in the Copper Country over the weekend, driven by a significant drop in Houghton County. The area’s largest county recorded only 18 cases over a four-day stretch. Downstate and even other larger municipalities in the Upper Peninsula, like Marquette and Escanaba, have seen an upswing in cases. There is still no sign that the current wave will be a major factor locally.

Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center and Michigan Tech are putting on a three-day vaccination clinic starting Tuesday morning. It is for university students only. Originally scheduled to be completed with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, the Moderna option will be used instead. That means that a second clinic will be arranged in four weeks, potentially limiting participation as the spring semester will have already wrapped up. Traditionally, the two-shot system automatically enrolls a person at the same location for their second dose.
