Tuesday’s Houghton County Board of Commissioners meeting focused on two main issues, says Chairman Al Koskela. The first was a lengthy discussion about election equipment. That comes on the heels of a successful audit, announced last week by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. The county is one of many across the state and thousands nationwide that utilizes Dominion Voting Systems machines. The company came under fire in the immediate aftermath of the election over potential fraud and an inability to replicate vote totals. The machines were not accepted by the State of Texas over accuracy concerns. Dominion has filed lawsuits for defamation against several political figures, such as Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Guiliani. No changes were made as a result of the board’s discussion.
The commissioners are also eying a new jail on Sharon Avenue. Koskela says a site is being examined to determine its viability.
An old transfer station was approved for sale in the final significant order of business for $55,000.
