Houghton Community Broadcasting Scores Five “Bests” in MAB Awards

97.7 The Wolf and KBear 102 were awarded five “Best in Category” awards and two Merit awards during ceremonies Thursday hosted by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.  The five is the highest ever received by the stations in the excellence in radio competition and is the most awarded to any small-market station this year.

The Wolf celebrated victories for it’s stress-relieving COVID-19 promotional announcements, its Keweenaw Report’s morning sports broadcasts, and it’s use of the internet to promote its annual “12 Pets of Christmas” project with the Copper Country Humane Society.  The merit was for it’s use of natural sound in the coverage of Sheriff Brian Maclean’s funeral this past summer.

KBear’s “Your Morning Coffee” with Todd VanDyke was named the best morning show.  That show’s “Morning Calendar” won for feature programming, while another Merit was given for the station’s promotion of “Christmas Carol” contest.

“To win so many categories while competing against the best stations across the state shows that great radio is happening in the Keweenaw,” said Jeff Harju, Houghton Community Broadcasting General Manager.  “Our staff takes pride in providing great entertainment, information, and community involvement for our audience and is working daily towards more award-winning programs for our audience.”

The MAB presented awards in 17 categories during it’s annual event.
