The Houghton City Council is preparing for the upcoming summer season.
The meeting tonight will address a few important topics. There will be a final decision on ordinance 2023-330, which regulates animals and nuisance animals within city limits.
Last meeting, there were proposed changes to the ordinance. The changes limit the number of rabbits in a household to 6, the number of poultry or fowl to 4, and places restrictions on beekeepers. The restrictions proposed by the Copper Country Beekeeping Club is stricter than the ordinance in Marquette.
Lakeshore Drive corridor bids have previously come in above the set budget, and there have been discussions with engineers on how to lower the price.
There will also be a request for a LGBTQ+ event to occur on June 3rd at the East Houghton Waterfront Park, also known as the skatepark.
UPDATED AGENDA:
The updated agenda will include resolution 2023-1897 regarding water system improvement, which addresses watermain replacement, miscellaneous water distribution system improvements, water supply system improvements, water storage tank improvements, and lead service line replacements. The city is applying for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan and grant to assist in funding the eventual project.
The agenda was updated to also include resolution 2023-1898 regarding wastewater improvements, which addresses sanitary sewer main replacement. The city is applying for a Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan and Grant to assist in funding the eventual project.
