The city of Houghton held their council meeting last night. The council would first hear from the public about two proposed ordinances. The proposed ordinance 322 will clean up language for areas zoned r-3 in conjunction with the city’s new master plan. And ordinance 323 will rezone lots on College Avenue to allow for a proposed high density student housing project. The proposed project would construct indoor covered parking for future residents. The city council would also go on to approve four resolutions. One resolution would have the council show appreciation for James Gentry. Gentry served on Houghton’s housing commission for the past 42 years. And finally the council would approve a special land use permit for a new cannabis shop on ridge road. This approval is based on recommendations from the planning commission.
