Houghton asked for snow during the 2024 Winter Wonderland. And the city will have a white Christmas event.
Recent winter storms dumping snow in the Copper Country have caused challenges for DPW garages cleaning sidewalks and parking lots in communities. Because of the recent dump of snow, and the need to clean up the city before Friday, the City of Houghton announces that parking near the waterfront during Winter Wonderland will be affected.
Event preparation will begin at 8 am on Friday. The road to the Portage Lake District Library, UP Kids, and the Michigan Tech Lakeshore Center will be closed. City officials suggest that those who tend to park in the area please plan to park in the lot closer to the Library Restaurant. The city apologizes for the inconvenience. Winter Wonderland in Houghton will begin at 5 pm on Friday, and go until 8 pm.
