The Keweenaw Convention and Visitor Bureau website has been racking up traffic in what could prove to be a prelude to a great tourism season. Executive Director Brad Barnett says that a good portion of it has turned into questions.
Barnett says the early spring means the biking trails are already a majority of the way open near Copper Harbor, helping build momentum. Isle Royale’s reopening is another draw working in the area’s favor.
Barnett says he is hearing from a lot of people planning to be in the Keweenaw for the first time, continuing a trend seen in 2020. Last year, area hotels were often able to charge as much as $190 a night for their prime dates. A check of popular travel websites show multiple Houghton locations currently asking for over $200 in June for weeknights.
