Houghton County officially has an emergency homeless shelter, though its doors are not scheduled to open until this fall.
That’s the news from the organizers of Hope House, who say the shelter’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws and Code of Conduct were approved by the founding Board of Directors.
Paperwork for their 501(c)3 non profit status is also being reviewed and will be filed when the Corporation paperwork is returned by the State of Michigan.
The board of directors is made up of:
John E. Niemela, President/CEO
Jeff Jacobs M.D. Vice President
Pastor Scott Lindenberg, Secretary
Marsha Salo, Treasurer
Janet Holmstrom, Director
Kathy Flagstadt, Director
Hope House President and CEO John Niemela says there is still a lot of work to be done before they are ready to open their doors to their homeless neighbors this fall, but this most recent step means that Hope House is now officially formed as an emergency homeless shelter.
They are still recruiting local churches to become host churches for the shelter.
Training is available for all volunteers.
