Hancock’s New Garbage and Recycling System Starts Soon

Hancock’s residents have received the new garbage schedule for the city. Now the system will look similar to how garbage services are currently provided. The biggest difference starts with the city taking over the public service from Waste Management. The city has drawn a dividing line north along Elevation Street to the city limits. East Hancock, which includes the downtown area, will have garbage picked up on Mondays. West Hancock will have service pick-ups on Wednesdays. Each week public works will pick up curbside recycling on Thursdays throughout the city. All pick-ups will begin at 6 a.m. each day. All recycling must be placed in a marked bin or tote. In addition to informing residents of when garbage and recycling pick-ups will occur, the city provided a full list of recyclable materials public works will collect. Important dates like next Monday when the new service schedule will take effect, as well as November 28th and April 17th when there is no recycling pick-up schedule, are also important. As well as for West Hancock residents who will have garbage picked up early the weeks of Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Memorial Day.
