Hancock Welcomes Two New Officers from the NMU Police Academy

Hancock’s police department has two new familiar faces added to squad. On Friday Hancock swore in Nanue Houle, and Scott Wuebben. Both officers are graduates of the Northern Michigan University police academy’s most recent graduating class. Both men are life long residents of the city of Hancock, and are excited to serve the community.

“It’s a great community. We looked at other departments, and this being number one (for myself). And it’s local, it’s home to me, and it’s some thing that I’ve always wanted to do.” – Officer Scott Wuebben, Hancock Police Department

The NMU Police academy trains officers over a 15 week period. Where they are instructed on law enforcement procedures, and firearms training.

“15 weeks. We learned a lot about the law. How to drive vehicles. Arrest procedures and defensive tactics.” – Officer Nanue Houle, Hancock Police Department

Nanue Hule, and Wuebben have already begun their first day on the job in Hancock. Police Chief Tami Sleeman has worked hard over the past few months to bring more officers into the city. As well as working to bring the department into the modern day. In recent moths the department has upgraded officer sidearms, bought a new SUV cruiser, and brought on SRO Officer Darron Olsen for increased security at the Hancock Public School District.
