Hancock students get outdoor ice rink

Outdoor exercise is important in all four seasons. Physical Education teacher Stacy Bussiere wanted to reinforce that concept for her students at Hancock School District. What started as an idea has turned into a $5,000 project and a functioning ice rink located next to the auditorium.

Principal and Athletic Director Chris Salani suggested using a rink manufacturer’s kit to give the surface boards and a liner, helping to ensure the rink can last throughout the winter time and for a decade to come. It has an expected life of ten years.

According to the release, “Bussiere said the rink will be used for Wing Ding activities, JV Hockey team building, boot hockey, figure skating and other events for the students.” They helped build and also will maintain the rink, providing practical hands-on lessons.

Several organizations helped the skating surface become a reality, including the Hancock and South Range Fire Departments, the City of Hancock and the Hancock Public Schools Foundation.
