Hancock Public Schools Promotes Karen Eddy to Principal in Waiting at Barkell Elementary

Hancock Public Schools proudly announces Barkell Elementary new leader with the addition of Principal Successor in Waiting Karen Eddy.

Karen Eddy will take over as the elementary school’s principal following a transition period before Mr. Dan Vaara officially retires at the end of September.

Eddy graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1989. She followed a passion for education and began her teaching career in her home district in 1994. She started as a fourth-grade teacher at Barkell Elementary. Then Eddy eventually added teaching assignments for kindergarten, second, and sixth grades. Since 2017 she has been Barkell’s Title I Teacher. Through the federal program, she’s supported reading and math academic achievement for students. Eddy has also served the district as the Barkell Assistant Principal since 2009 and held an interim principal role in the 2011-12 school year.

Superintendent Chris Salani says he’s enthusiastic about Eddy’s transition into the Principal role after Vaara completes his tenure with the district. Eddy says she’s excited to continue working with families, students, staff, community, and the school board on the future Vision of Bulldog Achievement.
