Hancock Police Identify Individual Involved in Sunday’s Attack and Property Damage

Update: Hancock police have identified the individual suspected of property damage and an assault on an elderly man. In collaboration with the Houghton Sheriff’s Office, the Hancock Police Department executed a warrant on a Quincy Township home. Yesterday, the Hancock police department received a message from an individual on Samson Street in Quincy Township. The individual stated they wanted to “ confess a crime involving an ATV Driver within the last 24 hours”. Going further stating to “send someone to pick me up”.

Officers arrived at the Samson Street home and discovered a 22-year-old male suspect deceased of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence and recovered several electronic devices that will be analyzed by the department’s computer forensic specialists.

Both agencies thank the community for their assistance. The Houghton County Sheriff and Hancock Police department do not condone any violence against any political candidates or supporters. There is no threat to the public at this time. Houghton County sheriff and Hancock police were assisted by the Michigan state police, Mercy EMS, Houghton County medical examiner, and FBI Marquette Field office.
