Hancock’s fire department enjoys serving the community and keeping people safe from fires. But what the crew likely enjoys the most is serving the community by getting involved with the public outside of a scene. Tomorrow the Hancock Fire Department will host their annual Pancake Breakfast. While the department’s equipment and turnout gear have long been paid for by a city millage; The annual fundraising meal allows the department to pay for educational materials passed out during fire prevention week, and fund activities the fire department organizes during city events.
“We use it for fire prevention week. We hand out materials to the kids in the schools. Sponsor a Copper Country Junior Hockey mitt hockey team. And then when we build floats for the Copper Country Firemen’s Tournament and the U.P.‘s tournament, we use some of the funds to cover the costs of the floats. And going to the tournaments.” – Bill Lepisto, Fire Chief, Hancock Fire Department
Tickets for the breakfast fundraiser cost 8 dollars at the doors or can be purchased from any member of the fire department. Children under 6 can eat for free. Fire Chief Bill Lepisto says that the department will move the fire trucks out front so people can sit indoors, and check out the facility. The meal will begin at 7 am.
