Hancock campaign goes to the dogs

The City of Hancock’s Patronicity campaign to help raise funds for a new dog park near the Maasto Hiihto trails is live. John Diebel, President of the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, also serves on the new committee in charge of making a pup playground a reality. He enlisted some outside help to get the word out.

Diebel has owned several boxers over the years, and thought that their childlike playfulness would be a great attention getter for the cause. Diebel has known Katherine Nevius, a breeder with multiple national championships to her name, for a long time. Nevius is based out of Annapolis, Maryland now and she submitted a video that greets anyone visiting the campaign page.

If Hancock can raise $20,000 by September 17th, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will match that amount. As of Wednesday morning, the drive was at over five percent of its goal, thanks to the help of 19 donors.

Like many crowdfunding campaigns, rewards are being implemented. If you give $20, then you will receive a free dog park sticker. One-thousand dollar donations earn the Grand Champion designation, with the City of Hancock providing a thank you package and acknowledging the gift on signage at the dog park. There are several tiers in between.
