Wednesday night marked the final budget work session for the City of Hancock. Infrastructure and the capital improvement plan had been tackled the week before, leaving the city’s pension plan as the last major topic to address, says Manager Mary Babcock.
The budget will be debated and potentially adopted at next week’s meeting. Babcock says that so far the city has received no public comment related to the budget. She notes that following flood repairs the last several years, this budget is a relatively serene one.
Some interesting facts have been revealed during the process. The city’s sewer system is in excellent financial shape, with a large cash reserve on hand for future projects. The city’s roads will require some attention in the coming years. Using the PASER system, 38 percent of Hancock’s local roads grade as poor or worse. The budget takes effect July 1st for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
