Habitat for Humanity hosts dedication ceremony

Saturday marked the second time Habitat for Humanity dedicated a home at 16 Sixth Street in South Range. The organization retains the right to buy back a structure that it develops within five years of the initial sale. The first recipient moved from the area and that opened the door for Kathy Balog to make the residence her own. Due to COVID-19, Copper Country Habitat had not been able to build a new home.

Balog was still required to put in 200 hours of work to earn her home and undergo the financial training that will teach her how to ensure it remains hers. Her partner, Veronica Lessard, and other organization officials gathered with Balog for an intimate ceremony. Lessard talks about why Balog is a worthy recipient.

She was working for Americorps when she moved back here in 2004. Since that time, has been volunteering for a number of organizations, for Community Action, Little Brothers, and for Habitat, Dial Help, Copper Country Humane Society. She brings to this organization a background of volunteering.

Lessard says plans are to develop another South Range lot in the coming year.
