Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum Earns the Superior Award from the Historical Society of Michigan

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum earns the Superior Award from one of the oldest historical societies in the country.

Yesterday the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point, announced it has received the Superior Award from the Historical Society of Michigan that recognizes a museum dedicated to preserving and advancing the Upper Peninsula’s historic story. Visiting the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum brings many visitors and locals to the grounds of the Whitefish Point Lighthouse. Throughout the museum’s several buildings, onlookers will find pieces of history that were raised from beneath Lake Superior, hear the stories of sailors who spent their lives on the water, and discover the vast, sometimes tragic, history of the Great Lakes shipping industry.

Great Lakes Shipwreck Executive Director Bruce Lynn says that this award reflects the museum staff’s teamwork and efforts at Whitefish Point, the Weather Bureau building in the Soo, and the organization’s research vessel.
