Giving Tuesday Non-Profit Spotlight: Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness

Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness works to make life easier for residents in Keweenaw and Houghton Counties. The wholly grassroots effort works with residents when they cannot afford necessary home repairs, medical expenses, and transportation to places like the doctor. Since joining the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation’s Giving Tuesday a few years ago, the non-profit has benefited from nearly 20,000 dollars in funding.

“It’s just so much fun to be involved. They’re very geared up. I’ve been a part of some of the radio spotlights and that sort of thing, and there’s just this nice energy and vibe. Everyone gets fired up and so willing to help out our community. And I think that’s what we all appreciate is our community helping our community.” – Kim Kaura, Treasurer, Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness

Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness’ Treasurer, Kim Kaura says, that the organization receives many referrals for someone in need from someone who knows that individual. During Giving Tuesday there are more eyes on the 30 different organizations taking part, which Kaura adds has certainly helped raise awareness for what they do.

“We have gained some recognition, more people are aware of what we do, and that we’re out there. With the help of Giving Tuesday, we’ve been able to almost double what we donate to individuals in our community. We are looking forward to working with the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation again this year. And getting our name out there, raise some funds. It’s such a great program for all of these 30 organizations that are participating.” – Kim Kaura, Treasurer, Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness

Giving Tuesday with the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation last year raised over 650,000 dollars from individuals in the community and from friends of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Annually the foundation has provided a match sum to add to the day of giving’s total. Adding up to over 2.7 million dollars spread throughout the copper country over the past six years.
