Gates Tennis Center without heat

The boilers at Michigan Tech’s Gates Tennis Center failed earlier this week and have yet to be replaced. The facility is still open, but temporary space heaters have been deployed, closing Court Four. Temperatures are supposed to break closer to normal in the upcoming weeks, Saturday will challenge for 30 degrees, helping to alleviate the situation some.

The center is open to community members and Tech students from late morning until mid-afternoon and in the evening. The varsity men’s tennis team practices in between the open court sessions. The squad is in season, but does not have many matches scheduled at home. They will face Davenport and Purdue Northwest on April 15th and 16th in GLIAC play. Their conference slate does not start until late March. All non-conference matches are on the road.

Without boilers, the locker rooms at the Gates Center do not have hot water. Passes for the Student Development Complex are being issued in the interim to shower. Repairs are not expected for at least the next few weeks.
