Copper Island Academy is in their second full school year. Last year the charter school opened with great success, following their mission, to prepare students for the future by implementing parts of the Finnish education model into the American education system. Over the year, and continuing into this school year, the academy worked with Central Michigan University and the state department of education to receive all of their accreditation to educate students in Michigan, as a charter school. Copper Island Academy embraces the Finnish education model, that’s philosophy focusing on student-centered teaching, and asks students to learn at their pace.
With the start of their second school year, the group, friends of copper island academy will hold a second annual fundraising dinner on Saturday. The fundraiser is hosted by the Hidden Pines Barn, at 26150 Pine Street in Calumet. The dinner will include a live auction, with plenty of fun items available to bid on. To purchase tickets for the friends of copper island academy’s 2nd annual fundraising dinner contact Joel Keranen, Amy Loukus, or the Copper Island Academy office for more information.
