After 27 years, it all comes to a head on Saturday for Kathy Archambeau. The owner of the aptly named framed by Kathy will close the doors on her small business, and say good bye to the many friends she has made along the way.
“It’s been a 35 year career now, and we’ve framed so many different things. It’s absolutely incredible what people will bring in here to frame. Treasures, and pictures, and paintings, a little bit of everything. I framed two beer cans one time. And it’s fun working with people. Because every one of these things that comes into my store, has a story behind it. And I’ve often said, I wish I would have written them all down, because I could have had a book written with all of these wonderful stories.” Kathy Archambeau, Owner, Framed by Kathy
Archambeau fell in love with framing people’s family photos, keepsakes, degrees and more. She say that her position allowed her to see a glimpse into the lvies of many around the area, and share in their accomplishments and sorrows.
“Sometimes we laugh. Sometimes we’ve shed a few tears over things that belonged to loved ones. And it’s a journey for all of those people. And for me as well, because I’ve made so many friends, over the 35 years of doing this. And I have one customer who told me recently, well he’s told me a few times, but he said his whole house is framed by Kathy.” Kathy Archambeau, Owner, Framed by Kathy
On Saturday Framed by Kathy will have a celebration of her years in downtown Houghton. During the day various frames are available for free, and purchase. In addition to the sales on various frames, Archambeau says there will be a raffle drawing for a beautiful ornate frame with a value of 1,200 dollars. Join Kathy Archambeau and framed by Kathy as they celebrate 27 years in the copper country coming to a close.
Framed by Kathy is located in the Market Place, on the first floor. Their address is 314 Sheldon Avenue.
