Four Upper Peninsula Communities Receive FDCVT Grants from the State of Michigan for Infrastructure Improvements

Four western Upper Peninsula communities will receive a portion of 2.8 million dollars in state infrastructure grants for Financially Distressed Cities Villages and Townships. Yesterday the treasurer’s office announced that it has awarded 2.8 million dollars to 13 communities throughout the state to support projects services and strategies for public infrastructure improvements. Supporting the area’s financial stability overall. Four Upper Peninsula municipalities will receive funds from Ontonagon, Houghton, and Iron County.

Gaastra City, in Iron County, will receive a single grant worth 59,600 for technology upgrades.

Laurium Village will receive one grant for enhancing public safety with upgrades to the fire department worth 250,000 dollars.

The village of Onotnagon will receive two grants of around 425,000 dollars for replacing a backhoe and motor grader. Calumet will also receive two grants from the state.

Calumet will use around 571,000 dollars for infrastructure replacements at the public works building and village hall.
