A former president of Michigan Technological University has passed away. Former University President, Dale Stein passed away on October 9th, in Tucson, Arizona. Stein led the university from 1979 until his retirement in 1991. Before his presidency at Michigan Tech, Stein headed up the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and was the vice president of student affairs. In 1996 he was included the the university’s Academy of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers inaugural induction. Stein began his career with the General Electric Company, before starting to teach at his alma mater the University of Minnesota. In 1971 Stein became a professor at Michigan Technological University. During his career, Stein was a member of the National Academy of Engineering, an ASM fellow, and a past president of the American Institute of Mining Engineering’s Metallurgical Society.
