Fire Departments Looking to Melt the Ice Beneath the Police Team’s Skates

Copper Country Fire Departments will look to melt the ice beneath the Police Department’s skates tomorrow night. Pig-n-Heat has acted as the main fundraising event for the Copper Country Police and Fire Relief Fund. The money raised in the single night helps families and victims of tragedies, with recovering from a crime, fire, or motor accident. It’s been a while since the fire department was able to overtake the police. But this year, fire departments say that the team is prepared and will get the job done.

Of course, there’s that competitiveness between the two, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who wins. We’re here to help the community out and raise money for this great cause. It shows what kind of community we have up here in the copper country when we have such a great turnout. We have a great turnout, but then everybody’s you know, getting involved too, you take a look back at like the Father’s Day flood and you’d see like the community turn out for an event that happens like that. It’s cool to see and I feel like there’s not a lot of places in the country like this left anymore. – Ryan Kaura, Firefighter, Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Twp Fire Department

While the clash between the squads will include plenty of scoring and the traditional excitement spectators expect from a hockey game, both sides are happy to bring the community together for a fun night supporting the Police and Fire Relief Fund. Tickets for the game cost $5 for adults. There will also be Chuck-A-Puck in-between periods, raffle prizes, games for kids, and a gun raffle for attendees to check out before the game. Doors will open at MacInnes Ice Arena at 6 pm tomorrow. Find more details here.
