Cool weather settles in across the Keweenaw this weekend, but until then it is hot and dry, raising fire danger across the area. The last significant rainfall was seen last Thursday, which should help to mitigate problems somewhat.
The watch covers Houghton, Baraga, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties, citing low humidity and gusty winds. The forecast is calling for 10-20 miles per hour sustained, with the potential for bursts as high as 40 mph. If conditions worsen, a Red Flag Warning could be put into effect.
The Department of Natural Resources is currently restricting all burn permits issued through the agency to activities after 6:00 PM.
