Rodriguez

MLB
For the second day in a row, the Detroit Tigers led by a run going into the bottom of the ninth inning yesterday. For the second day in a row, the Oakland Athletics rallied for a walk-off win against closer Francisco Rodríguez. Ryon Healy’s home run lifted the A’s to an 8-6 victory. His two-run shot came after Jed Lowrie had doubled home former Tiger Rajai Davis with the tying run. James McCann homered for Detroit.

The Tigers have today off, and open a series at Arizona tomorrow night. Justin Verlander will start against former Tiger Robbie Ray. Pregame coverage will begin at 9:15 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Detroit manager Brad Ausmus says he and his staff will discuss whether a change needs to be made at closer. Rodríguez has blown four saves this year. Justin Wilson might be the most likely candidate for the job.

Davies

The Tigers have brought outfielder JaCoby Jones off the disabled list, but he won’t be rejoining the team. Jones has been assigned to Toledo, after struggling at the plate through the opening weeks of the season.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 yesterday. Eric Thames, Travis Shaw and Jesús Aguilar homered. Zach Davies pitched five scoreless innings, and left the game after giving up a two-run homer to José Osuna in the sixth.

The Brewers also have today off. They’ll begin a home series against the Boston Red Sox tomorrow night. Wily Peralta will pitch against Drew Pomeranz.
