Finlandia hosting a hybrid graduation

Finlandia University seniors will have an opportunity to walk across the stage at graduation this year. When they switch the tassel from one side of their cap to the other, they will be doing so only in front of fellow students and faculty though. The hybrid ceremony contains a video streaming component for family members to watch the proceedings as they happen inside the Hirvonen Health Sciences Building Auditorium.

This year’s ceremony takes place on Thursday, April 29th at 6:00 PM. Vice President for Academic Affairs Fredi de Yampert says, “We understand that this is not the full event that everyone would prefer, however it is our commitment to honor our graduates while maintaining the safety of our campus community. As such, out of an abundance of caution for the campus community, the decision to adhere to strict COVID-19 guidelines allows us to offer an in-person ceremony with minimal risk.”

The video stream will be available live and as an archived version that can be accessed at a later date and time. Finlandia has not released details on how to access the stream, or what platform it will be shown on. It is promising more information in the coming weeks.
