It’s the final days to register online for the 44th annual Canal Run, taking place this Saturday.
The Canal Run includes a 2 mile fun run/walk, 5 mile walk, 5 mile run, 10 mile walk, 10 mile run, half marathon, 5 mile blade (a single and/or double leg amputee race), and a half marathon wheelchair race.
Last-minute registration and packet/bib pick-up will take place Friday (July 19th) from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Finlandia Hall on Finlandia University’s campus.
There is a pre-race pasta dinner Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at the Finnish-American Heritage Center.
The Canal Run Kids’ Dash will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The event is free for all children, or there is an option to pay $10.00 and receive a Canal Run t-shirt. Participants will run a quarter mile to the finish line on Quincy Street.
As a prelude to the Canal Run, downtown Hancock will host Key Ingredients on Friday from 6:00-9:00pm with a wide variety of musicians performing at restaurants, the Copper Country Community Arts Center, and Finlandia University.
With so many activities surrounding the race, UP Health System—Portage Health and Fitness Manager Angela Luskin says it’s a great weekend to enjoy what Hancock has to offer. “What has been fun to watch as the Canal Run has grown over the years, that it really has turned into a Canal Run weekend where there are several activities taking place on Friday and Saturday now,” said Luskin.
More than 800 runners are expected to take part in this year’s Canal Run. For full details and registration information, click here.
