The Copper Shores Community Health Foundation has teamed up with Feeding America – west Michigan to bring a semi-truck to the western Upper Peninsula. Next Wednesday, Feeding America will deliver a semi-truck full of healthy food options from its distribution center in Grand Rapids to the village of Ontonagon. Feeding America West Michigan distributes food to communities as far south as just over the Indiana-Michigan boarder to as far north as Ontonagon County.
Feeding America has worked with the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation since 2020 to set up food distribution centers in the western Upper Peninsula, focusing on communities in Ontonagon County. Attendees to the Feeding America mobile food pantry will not need to show identification or proof of need to pick up a box of food. They will only need to provide basic contact information such as an address and phone number. The semi-truck will arrive at the Ontonagon Village Fire Hall at noon on October 4th. Additionally, CSCHF have organized another mobile food pantry for the month of November.
