Fall foliage and autumn skies are right on the verge of showing their incredible display. And the Copper country has so many events and things to check out. In town during October Houghton, Bruce Crossing, Baraga, and South range all have fall harvest, and autumn themed festivals.
“(They’re) Near downtown, so that way when you come downtown and see the fall color, and see some exciting things. And stop on in, and you check to see what the shops have to offer. And see if the restaurants have some fall specials.” – Brad Barnett, Executive Director, Visit Keweenaw
There are even great chances to see the leaves change colors from different perspectives than people are used too; around there area, there a guided tours from both the air and water. With various boat tours and plane tours that launch from around Houghton and Hancock.
“We’re all used to seeing trees all over the place. But when, when you’re up in an airplane you can see the trees for miles, opposed to the trees only within your viewpoint in any one spot as your traveling down the road. So the vantage points just become very vast and it’s just spectacular.” – Tomas Sowles, Chief Pilot, Isle Royale Seaplanes
There are plenty of chances to get out to the forests and see the seasons change. Isle Royale Seaplanes’ pilots say that peak color is still a couple weeks away, but you can see that about 25 to 30 percent of the leaves have begun to change. If you can’t see the leaves from a guided tour, talk a hike through any number of local nature areas, parks and trails this fall too.
