Fair’s exhibit building scheduled for renovation in September

The main exhibit building at the Houghton County Fairgrounds is scheduled to have a new floor come September. When the work is finished, the base will be concrete. The sliding doors at the end of the structure will also be changed to an overhead version. DP Construction is completing the project at a cost of nearly $90,000. A grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development totaling $25,800 helps to offset some of the price tag.

This year’s fair happens at the end of August and will have animal and art displays, grandstand events, as well as a midway. Still exhibits are open to all Houghton and Keweenaw County residents who want to participate. Those showing livestock must hail from the four-county area and the horse show, youth talent show, horse pull and tractor pull competitions can be entered by anyone. The last day to register animals is August 16th, with the deadline for still exhibits set for August 18th.

Four-day passes and wristbands to the midway are available now.
