Driver loses control of vehicle in downtown Ontonagon

Early Thursday morning, a driver did damage to a variety of property in Ontonagon’s downtown area after he lost control of his vehicle. He was driving north on River Street approaching Quartz when his car clipped the side of a pickup truck. He would later hop the curb, hitting a street light, a sport utility vehicle, a tree, and colliding with the storefronts of the UP North Café and Roxey’s Bar and Grill.

Police were called to the scene at 5:33 AM and assisted the driver until SONCO North could transport him to Aspirus Ontonagon. None of the vehicles that were hit had anyone inside and the driver had minor facial injuries. An investigation is still ongoing. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor. No word if the driver suffered a medical condition that contributed to the string of accidents.
