With a theme of exploring dragons, knights, and legendary sights Winter Carnival must have a royal court.
It’s so exciting. I was, when I first joined Blue Key, I was on the royalty committee. So it’s, for me, it’s always exciting because like all the candidates are excited and all of us, like Blue Key members, are all like prepping and it’s also like the start of carnival for us. So it’s just like the excitement and the buzz and knowing the anticipation of like what’s going to happen and how, how’s it going to go and to see who’s going to win – Skyler Spitzley, President, Blue Key Honor Society.
Royalty coronation, to kick off Winter Carnival on Michigan Technological University’s campus, highlights the institution’s many talented students. In years past royal candidates have shown their husky spirit, and pride in modern tech through talents like song and dance.
I mean, I think it takes a lot for a person to go up on stage and present something to be judged on, but then also present it to their peers. And I’ve seen things from dances to singing to painting and singing at the same time, to cute little comedy skits to bringing like, how does your major fit into the Winner Carnival theme? – Skyler Spitzley, President, Blue Key Honor Society
The 2025 Winter Carnival royalty coronation includes eight candidates. Each is very involved with student organizations, such as sororities, the Memorial Union Board, the Huskies Pep Band, and academic/professional groups.
We have eight royalty candidates, and I think they each bring something different to Michigan Tech. There, for instance, this year’s royalty, there are some business students, there’s some engineers, there’s an MLS major. So it’s like a very different, broad view of Tech. There are not just engineers. It’s a very good representative of all the different people and very many different involvements that you could do on campus. – Skyler Spitzley, President, Blue Key Honor Society
