With winter settling into the western Upper Peninsula many will begin searching out ways to stay active during those cold snowy days. Michigan’s DNR operates the Porkies Winter Sports Complex within the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park as a winter recreation opportunity for visitors seeking out powder days this season. The Winter Sports Complex offers chances to try adrenaline-pumping downhill skiing and groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. The different recreation opportunities within the park offer stellar views of Lake Superior with all-natural snow conditions. And following the turn of the calendar the complex will begin offering sno-go biking as a way to get outside too. The Porkies winter sports complex is operated by Simple Adventures in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources. Recreation opportunities in the winter at the complex, as well as throughout the year, are supported in part by efforts from the Friends of the Porkies group.
