Unusually dry conditions have raised fire danger levels to high or very high around the Keweenaw.
The DNR has currently stopped issuing any burn permits at the time.
You do not need to do anything once burn permits are being issued again. Those looking to have a fire in the U.P. simply view a map of Michigan counties with burn permit information. If “yes” appears in the burning permit issues column, you are authorized to burn for the day. There is no need to apply or print anything out.
Burn permits are not required for cooking or recreational fires, but it is highly suggested to follow the safety protocols to help avoid a wildfire.
