The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team arrested 28-year-old Shawn Bell on Thursday, February 18th outside a home in Copper City. Bell is a native Detroiter and faces serious drug and firearm charges including delivery of methamphetamine, possession of MDMA and Hydrocodone, and possession of a gun and ammunition with a prior felony conviction. They carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison.
The home was raided last November, kickstarting a long investigation when narcotics and guns were found during the execution of a search warrant. Bell was picked up Thursday after he was pulled over on a traffic violation. In the car, detectives found a new set of contraband, such as fentanyl, crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia, plus a shotgun and pistol.
Bell has been arraigned in 97th District Court and bond was set at $50,000. Another round of charges are expected to be levied against him in the future.
UPSET was assisted by nearly a half dozen other agencies from state and local jurisdictions, including MSP – Hometown Security Team, MSP- Emergency Support Team, MSP-Calumet Post, Houghton County Sheriff, as well as the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Homeland Security Agency.
