Crash Sunday morning causes injury

An 18-year-old man from Atlantic Mine lost control of his vehicle at a corner on Paradise Road near Pilgrim Road in Portage Township early Sunday leading to a one-car accident. The Houghton County Sheriff Department fielded the call at about 9:45 AM. When they arrived at the scene, they found the car had gone off the road into the ditch, careened off a driveway culvert, and finally slammed into a utility pole.

Mercy EMS treated the driver for injuries before taking him to UP Health Systems – Portage for further care. The crash was not life threatening. Hurontown Fire Department, Superior Service Towing, and good Samaritans helped at the scene. UPPCO responded to make repairs to the utility pole. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the accident.
