Thursday’s COVID-19 update from the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department was a mixed bag. First, the good news is that cases in Houghton County dropped from the prior update, falling from 30 to 27. Baraga and Keweenaw Counties saw seven new cases though so the area total jumped to 34 overall. There was one death in Baraga County. The numbers are above where they were two weeks ago, but show generally mild increases compared to what has been seen in other parts of the state.
Vaccinations continue to rise. Keweenaw County is over 25 percent. Houghton is nearing nineteen. Over 750 more people in the western Upper Peninsula are fully vaccinated compared to Monday.
