The Western UP Health Department reports 244 new COVID cases in the five county region on the October 20th report. This week’s case count is 29 cases lower than the previous week. Though Baraga County had the highest increase in cases between the two most recent reports. Last week Baraga had 38 cases, this week jumped up to 55. Gogebic County fell from 82 cases to 42. Houghton County stayed steady; the county added 128 cases this week, 127 cases were recorded in the previous report. Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties had 19 cases between them this week. There were two deaths reported, one in each of Baraga and Houghton County. Keweenaw and Ontonagon are above the 60% vaccination rate. And Baraga still lags behind the rest of the region with just below 50% of residents receiving the initial dose of the COVID vaccine.
