COVID activity remains low throughout the region

Since Friday there have been nine new COVID-19 cases in Houghton, Keweenaw, and Baraga Counties. The overall rate remains low even as the area has had to absorb the fallout from a potential super spreader event at a Calumet hockey tournament the final weekend of February.

An additional 540 people have been vaccinated across the Western Upper Peninsula Health District, with the overall rate up to 16.60%. Eligibility requirements were loosened Monday to allow people 50 and older to receive their first dose. This will help Houghton County to catch up to others who have an older demographic profile.

TOTAL: 16 more positives, 6 more probable positives, 48 more recoveries and 16.60% fully vaccinated (up from 15.60% meaning 540 more people)
BARAGA COUNTY: 1 less probable positive, 3 more recoveries and 18.47% fully vaccinated (up from 18.36%)
GOGEBIC COUNTY: 7 more positives, 25 more recoveries and 15.93% fully vaccinated (up from 14.69%)
HOUGHTON COUNTY: 8 more positives, 5 more probable positives, 18 more recoveries and 14.86% fully vaccinated (up from 13.63%)
KEWEENAW COUNTY: 1 more positive and 18.34% fully vaccinated (up from 17.29%)
ONTONAGON COUNTY: 2 more probable positives, 2 more recoveries and 25.60% fully vaccinated (up from 25.46%)
