The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department released its latest COVID-19 Monday night, showing an increase from the same period last week. From Friday to Monday, there were 30 new cases reported in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties compared to 14 last weekend.
Fewer tests tend to be run on Saturday and Sunday, which means that fewer cases are reported in the days following. Then there is a catch up period starting on Monday that is announced in the middle of the week. The twice weekly reports almost perfectly coincide with this cycle. From the weekend of March 13-14 to March 20-21, cases rose by over 100%.
Vaccinations continue to improve as Houghton County moves over 18%. Keweenaw is nearing 23%.
